Airtel Kenya has appointed Djibril Tobe as their new Managing Director following the exit of Ashish Malhotra.

In a statement on Tuesday, the telco’s Board of Directors announced that Djibril would be taking over from Ashish, who has been the MD for the past four years. Ashish will take over the role of Chief Executive Officer of Indus Tower Africa.

Djibril has over 20 years of experience across various sectors, including telecommunications, fast-moving consumer goods and consulting sectors across multiple African markets.

According to the telco, Djibril has a solid track record in impacting businesses through transformation and commercial growth across African markets.

Previously, Djibril served as the MD of both Airtel Congo B and Chad. Also, he contributed to the company as a Commercial Director at Airtel Burkina Faso. His expertise led him to serve as the CEO of Expresso Guinea and lead business units at Coca-Cola.

The Directors have acknowledged Ashish's significant contribution to the growth of the company, mentioning his role in championing the growth of Airtel Money and increasing market share from 2% to 11% over the past four years.

“We welcome Djibril Tobe to his role, and we are confident that his expertise will steer Airtel Kenya to the next level as we continue delivering innovative and relevant solutions. We would like to commend Ashish for his immense contribution to Airtel Kenya’s growth journey, and we wish him success in his new role,” the Board said in a statement to newsrooms.
