Meet the moderators of the 2022 Deputy Presidential debate

The Presidential Debates Secretariat announced that Citizen TV's Trevor Ombija, KTN's Sophia Wanuna, NTV's James Smart, KTN's Zubeida Kananu and Citizen TV's Francis Gachuri will host the Deputy Presidential debate slated for next week.

The debate will see the four Deputy Presidential candidates, Azimio’s Martha Karua, Kenya Kwanza’s Rigathi Gachagua, Roots Party’s Justina Wamae and Agano Party’s Ruth Mutua face-off and show the electorate what their vision for the country is should they win next month's, General Election.

"We confirm and remind the public that the 2022 Deputy Presidential Debate will take place on Tuesday, July 9, 2022, at the Catholic University for Eastern Africa (CUEA) main campus situated in Karen, Nairobi, from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm," read the statement signed by Clifford Machoka, the head of the Presidential Debates Secretariat.

This will be the second of three political debates and follows the Nairobi Governor Debate that pitted the nine aspirants who are gunning to run the nation’s Capital.

The debate will be conducted in two tiers; first one for those with less than 5% approval ratings and second one for those with 5% and above.

The first-tier debate featuring candidates who have polled less than 5% in three recent opinion polls will be moderated by Francis Gachuri and Zubeida Kananu.

"The second-tier debate involving candidates who have polled above 5% in three recent opinion polls will be moderated by Sophia Wanuna of KTN News and James Smart of NTV. Panel discussions for both debates will be moderated by Trevor Ombija of Citizen TV," the Secretariat announced.
