Defining smart casual for men: How to dress down in style
Audio By Vocalize
Smart-casual has for some time been misunderstood in not only the women’s fashion world but men’s too.
Fashion trends have now proven that getting smart-casual right will set you free from traditional rules of a full oversized suit that can make one look out of place. Smart Casual has now been associated for weekends especially Fridays for white collar jobs as well as business people.
This is when men will wear their jeans and T-shirts at work and are allowed to get away with it.
However, what happens when you are too dressed-down, for instance in a T-shirt and sneakers and a pair of ragged jeans, then the boss calls for an important staff meeting?
Women will not tell you but her man showing up at the club in a full suit on a Friday evening will make her feel out of place, considering women have found their smart casual in fancy below the knee dresses that can pass as perfectly in the office as they do at the club on a Friday night.
Men, it is therefore important to find a perfect balance for smart casual no matter the occasion. Here is how
Jacket
An official blazer is one from a full suit and a casual blazer is made specifically for a casual look.
Avoid using the fully sized suit blazer and choose one you wouldn’t wear to work.
Trousers
Remember though, jeans are fine as long as they’re dark, clean, rip free and well-fitting.
Ideally, try a pair of either leather boots with a rounded toe or simple canvas shoes.
Finally, there are important rules for pretty much any outfit. Polish, brush or clean your shoes, iron your shirt and see if your jacket is complemented by a pocket square.
