DCI seeks 14 days to detain Brown Cheese Company officials accused of forcing workers to strip naked

Two officials of Brown Cheese Company in Tigoni have been arraigned at the Limuru Law Court over their dehumanizing treatment of female employees at the company.

Rose Lydah Achieng Opondo and Vivian Oka Mukoko, who were the quality assurance manager and human resource manager respectively, are accused of ordering female employees to strip naked and inspecting them to ascertain who among them was in their 'period'.

In an affidavit submitted in court, investigating officer Felix Mutua argues that due to the number of witnesses in the matter, the file has not been perused by the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), and thus the need for more time.

“We pray that the respondents be detained at Tigoni police Station for a period of Fourteen (14) days to allow completion of the investigations,” read the court documents seen by Citizen Digital. 

The petition further notes that the pair may be at flight risk following their recent suspension from the company and may also interfere with the witnesses.

“The two respondents are a flight risk since their place of abode is unknown and their contract with the company has since been suspended,” read the petition.

The document adds: “The security of the respondents is at risk and the DCI investigators are apprehensive that their lives might be in jeopardy.”

Mutua in the Affidavit records that the accused were parading 34 female employees in the toilet and forcing them to undress for inspection to ascertain if they are in their monthly menstruation period.

He filed the application on a priority basis underscoring that it is a matter of public interest.

Meanwhile, the third person who had been arrested in connection with the incident was released after it was established she was actually a victim of the act.
