DCI arrests two suspects over deadly Embu UDA meeting chaos

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the two suspects were arrested in connection with the unrest, adding that detectives are pursuing additional suspects linked to the criminal acts committed during the disruption.

In a related development, armed police officers raided the rural home of Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji at Mutunduri following the Saturday violence at the deputy president's political meeting.

The violence occurred during a meeting presided over by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and attended by senior national and county leaders. It left one person dead, several police officers injured, and a number of motor vehicles torched, after groups of youths engaged security officers in running battles before order was restored.

"Political differences must never become a licence for lawlessness. No grievance, disagreement or political affiliation places anyone above the law," the DCI said in a statement.

The agency added that those who attack others, torch vehicles, destroy property, barricade public roads or assault police officers will be pursued, arrested and brought to justice
