Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has assured Kenyans that the country has sufficient fuel stocks, even as several African nations grapple with petroleum shortages.

Speaking amid reports of long queues at petrol stations in parts of the continent, Wandayi said Kenya has not experienced any stock-outs and remains well supplied across all key fuel products.

“There are a number of countries in Africa which have run out of petroleum products, with endless queues reported at petrol stations. However, we have not had any evidence of a stock-out in Kenya,” he said.

The CS attributed the stability to the government-to-government fuel supply framework, which he described as robust and capable of withstanding external shocks.

According to Wandayi, the country currently has adequate reserves of Super Petrol, Diesel, Jet A1, Kerosene, and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), with additional shipments already scheduled.

“We have enough stocks to last us for many days, and we have lined up deliveries in the short term up to the end of April,” he stated.

He added that the government is working closely with international suppliers and nominated oil marketing companies to ensure continuous supply and distribution across the country.

Wandayi also urged calm among consumers, noting that there is no cause for alarm and commending Kenyans who refrained from panic buying following earlier concerns.

“We continue to monitor the situation closely. We do not know how soon the global challenges will end, as we live in an interconnected world, but there should be no cause for alarm,” he said.

On fuel pricing, the CS indicated that any adjustments will be handled by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) at the appropriate time.

Kenya’s assurance comes as global supply chain pressures continue to affect energy markets, with governments across the region taking measures to stabilize fuel availability.
