CS Ruku unveils plan to harmonize NYS and TVETs, promises opportunities for youth

Speaking during a church service at ACK Kiamiatu Church in Kega, Embu County, Ruku said the initiative is aimed at creating a seamless training framework that equips young people with practical skills, technical expertise, and hands-on experience required in today's competitive job market.

The CS noted that integrating NYS and TVET programmes will strengthen the country's human capital development agenda by ensuring trainees acquire industry-relevant skills that can enable them secure employment or venture into entrepreneurship.

According to Ruku, the government plans to transform NYS training centres into modern centres of excellence that will work closely with TVET institutions to produce a highly skilled workforce capable of meeting emerging local and international labour market demands.

He further revealed that the government intends to expand NYS training facilities across the country to accommodate more young people seeking technical and vocational education.

"The government wants every young person willing to acquire skills to have an opportunity to do so. By strengthening the relationship between NYS and TVET institutions, we are creating a stronger foundation for employment, innovation and self-reliance," Ruku said.

The CS emphasized that empowering young people through skills training remains a key pillar of the Kenya Kwanza administration's economic transformation agenda, adding that investment in human capital development is critical to addressing youth unemployment and accelerating economic growth.

On public service delivery, Ruku assured Kenyans that the government remains committed to improving the quality and efficiency of services offered to citizens across all sectors.

CS Ruku also cautioned residents living in flood-prone and low-lying areas to remain vigilant following forecasts of heavy rainfall associated with the anticipated El Niño weather phenomenon. He urged affected communities to relocate to safer grounds where necessary and advised farmers with mature crops to harvest early to minimize potential losses.

Ruku also defended President William Ruto's frequent international engagements, saying the visits are aimed at strengthening Kenya's diplomatic relations, attracting foreign investments, and unlocking development opportunities that will create jobs and improve livelihoods.

He also dismissed claims that the exit of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from government should influence the political direction of the Mt. Kenya region. He maintained that residents of Mt. Kenya East remain focused on development, economic empowerment, and supporting initiatives that improve the welfare of wananchi.

The remarks come as the government intensifies efforts to enhance youth empowerment programmes and expand access to technical and vocational training as a strategy for reducing unemployment and boosting economic productivity.
