The body of a 35-year-old man was on Monday evening exhumed in Kokelo village in the Ratta area of Seme sub-county, Kisumu County, following a court order amid a burial dispute.

Police said the deceased’s mother obtained the exhumation orders from a court in Ndhiwa, Homa Bay County, after a disagreement with the family of her former husband, who hails from Seme.

Both sides are demanding burial rights, with the mother insisting the man should be laid to rest in Ndhiwa, where she currently resides.

According to a police report, the exercise was conducted by public health officers in the company of police, who oversaw the exhumation.

The man had been buried mid-month. After the exhumation, the body was taken to Ndhiwa Sub-County Hospital mortuary for preservation pending a court hearing.
