Police have seized more than 1,112 metric tonnes of contaminated sugar in Mombasa worth Ksh.214 million that was about to be released to the public.

The sugar was at a private container freight station CFS Mitchell Cotts and was allegedly imported by a person known as Rehema Badi an employee of the company under Elevon Logistics Limited situated along Links Road in Nyali.

Documents seized by Kenya Ports Authority and KRA indicate that the 46 containers of contaminated sugar were imported late last year.

The insurer of the shipper compensated the importer and the said sugar was to be destroyed upon the ship docking at the Port of Mombasa.
