Gor Mahia are just one win away from ending a 41-year wait for CECAFA Kagame Cup glory, with head coach Charles Akonnor and assistant captain Mike Kibwage expressing confidence ahead of Friday's final against hosts Rayon Sports.

K'Ogalo will be aiming to reclaim the regional crown when they face the Rwandan giants in what promises to be a fiercely contested final.

The Kenyan champions have enjoyed an impressive campaign, topping Group A after registering two wins and one defeat. They then booked their place in the final with a hard-fought victory over Sudan's Al Hilal in the semi-finals.

Standing between Gor Mahia and the trophy are hosts Rayon Sports, who secured their place in the final after overcoming South Sudan's Jamus SC.

Speaking during the pre-match press conference, Akonnor praised his side's growth, resilience and tactical discipline throughout the tournament. He singled out their performances against continental heavyweights APR and Al Hilal, where Gor Mahia showed remarkable determination despite playing with 10 men.

"We have been through a lot of challenges, but my players have shown great resilience and character. Rayon Sports are a very disciplined, compact side that has only conceded one goal so far, but we have a clear plan. We are here to win the cup, represent Kenya, and make our people back home happy," said Akonnor.

The Ghanaian tactician also confirmed that midfielder Alpha Onyango is available for selection after serving his suspension, providing a timely boost to Gor Mahia's midfield options.

Assistant captain Mike Kibwage echoed his coach's confidence, insisting the squad is fully prepared to embrace the challenge of facing the host nation in front of what is expected to be a partisan crowd.

"We respect Rayon Sports and we know they have the home advantage, but big players need big stages to perform. We have worked hard from the group stages to get here. The squad is focused, motivated and ready to fight for the title," Kibwage said.

Victory would see Gor Mahia lift their first CECAFA Kagame Cup title since 1985, bringing an end to a four-decade wait before turning their attention to the upcoming CAF Champions League campaign.
