Kaimosi Friends University gears for expansion as community backs Vokoli campus plans

The concerns have centred on claims that the new campus could result in the transfer of academic programmes from the university’s main campus in Kaimosi.

However, the university has dismissed the claims, saying the Vokoli campus is intended to support its expansion and increase access to higher education rather than replace or relocate existing programmes.

In a statement from the Office of the Vice Chancellor, Kaimosi Friends University Vice Chancellor Prof. Peter Mwita said the campus would operate under the governance of the main campus and would primarily accommodate new academic programmes.

“The Moses Mudavadi Campus will host new academic programmes that are complementary to KAFU’s existing academic programmes and strategic direction,” Prof. Mwita said.

The university said there were no plans to relocate existing schools or displace programmes currently offered at the Kaimosi main campus.

The expansion has received support from the Friends Church of Kenya, which has welcomed the development as an opportunity to widen access to university education and stimulate economic activity in the area.

Friends Church of Kenya National Deputy Presiding Clerk Nicholus Anyanje said the project could create employment opportunities while attracting investment to Vokoli and its surrounding areas.

“Kaimosi Friends University’s decision to expand to Vokoli is not only a major boost to access to higher education, but it will also create jobs and open up the area to investment opportunities,” Anyanje said.

The university said the expansion would be implemented in line with existing laws, regulatory requirements, institutional policies and governance procedures.

Kaimosi Friends University received its charter in 2022 and has since grown to more than 10,000 students.

The institution has urged students, staff and members of the public to rely on official communication for information concerning the Vokoli campus, its academic programmes and other development plans.
