College director arrested forged academic certificates

The forged papers reportedly denied the victim a job opportunity.

In a statement on Wednesday, the DCI said Philip Kipsoi Kiyeng, Director of Region Group College, allegedly misrepresented the college as being an affiliate of Moi University, luring the victim to enrol for a Diploma in Business Management course.

According to the DCI, a complaint was lodged by the Public Service Commission, which questioned the validity of the institution during the authentication of academic and professional certificates for its job applicants.

Investigations into the matter revealed that the victim had presented his diploma certificate, which he believed was genuine, to his employer, which was flagged during the verification process.

The DCI reports that this led to the subsequent dismissal of the victim from employment.

 “During the verification exercise, the diploma was confirmed to be a forgery, leading to the victim’s dismissal from employment,” read the statement in part.

After concluding investigations, the DCI forwarded the case file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions ( ODPP), which approved charges against the suspect, including making a false document contrary to section 347(a) of the Penal Code, among other offences.

Detectives from the DCI apprehended the suspect in Eldoret town and is currently undergoing processing pending his arraignment.
