Royal Media Services on Friday night stole the spotlight with several of its journalists bagging top honours across key categories at the 2025 Annual Journalism Excellence Awards (AJEA).

It was a night of pride and prestige as Kenya’s top journalists were celebrated during the event hosted by the Media Council of Kenya.

From lifetime achievement to investigative and animal welfare reporting, stories continue to shape conversations and inspire change.

Among the evening's highlights was the Lifetime Achievement Award presented to Catherine Wamuyu of Inooro TV.

With a career spanning decades, Wamuyu has been a beacon of journalistic integrity and storytelling excellence.

“We are very happy for our media house because of what we have been able to take home,” she said after receiving the accolade.

In the newly introduced Animal Welfare Reporting category, Citizen TV's Evans Asiba and Brenda Wanga were honoured for their compelling coverage that brought attention to the plight of animals and the importance of humane treatment.

“As the Royal Media Services family, we thank God and Dr SK Macharia for giving us the opportunity and the platform to work and excel,” said Asiba.

Radio journalist Hajj Kibwanga, also from Royal Media Services, was recognised in the same category for his impactful radio segments that highlighted animal welfare issues across the country.

The Best Investigative Award went to Waweru Wa Nyambura of Inooro TV, whose in-depth reporting uncovered significant societal issues, demonstrating the power of journalism to effect change.

"It is a big day for all journalists who work in the vernacular media stations. It is not only a win for Inooro but for all journalists,” said Waweru Wa Nyambura.

These accolades underscore Royal Media Services' commitment to excellence and the impactful storytelling that informs and transforms society.
