The former world 1500m champion Timothy Cheruiyot is set to lead Kenya's squad for the newly introduced Mile event at the upcoming Commonwealth Games.
Determined to upgrade his silver medals from 2018 and 2022, Cheruiyot booked his spot by winning at the national trials in Nairobi.
In the newly introduced Mile event, he will be joined by fellow Kenyans Reynold Cheruiyot and Brian Komen.
“I thank God for having been in running for a long time, because staying active in athletics for a long time is not easy. It takes a lot of focus and discipline, and I am happy that I will represent Kenya again, hoping to run well. We are one team and we have Brian Komen and Cheruiyot and we want to bring it home.” Said Timothy.
While training and building up, Cheruiyot noted that he has had a strong buildup that began in October.
Unlike previous seasons plagued by setbacks, the former world champion has declared himself injury-free and fully focused on capturing the gold medal that has eluded him in his previous two Commonwealth appearances.
The former world 1,500m champion will headline a 52-member Kenyan contingent alongside other prominent athletes, including reigning Commonwealth 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala and world 800m champion Lilian Odira.
