Chaos erupted at the Narok County Assembly on Tuesday afternoon after Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) from rival factions engaged in fistfights during a heated sitting to consider an ouster motion against Finance County Executive Committee Member (CECM) David Ole Muntet.

The drama unfolded shortly after the session began when divisions emerged among MCAs over the planned impeachment motion.

Some members who had initially backed the motion were accused of abruptly changing their stance, sparking anger among colleagues pushing for the removal of the finance executive.

Tensions escalated further as Speaker Davis Ole Dikir rose to communicate changes in leadership and read the motion before voting could take place.

The assembly chamber quickly descended into chaos, with MCAs exchanging blows in a confrontation that forced security officers to whisk the Speaker away from the chamber as proceedings were brought to an abrupt halt.

Speaking after the incident, Speaker Ole Dikir said the chaos stemmed from disagreements among members over proposed leadership changes.

“Today we received a proposal from both members of coalition on changes of leadership and I was doing the communication, there was fracas of members and I wouldn’t advise further, members will address the issues they had," Dikir stated.

"This will be stopped by the party membership having discussions away from the assembly because my role is if you bring a communication by the majority members, that is what I’ll do."

The factions involved are reportedly drawn from both the majority and minority sides of the assembly, with accusations that some MCAs had abandoned an earlier agreement to support the emergency motion seeking to remove Muntet from office.

The Finance CECM is accused of mismanaging public funds, displaying arrogance, and halting key development projects without explanation.

MCAs backing the ouster are now calling on the Office of the Auditor General to intervene and conduct an audit into the county’s expenditure, insisting that anyone found culpable should face legal action.

Despite the disruption, the group pushing for Muntet’s removal vowed to continue pursuing the matter until its conclusion.
