Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) on Thursday treated the team to a celebratory breakfast, following their brilliant season and the management was quick to underline their commitment to keep the mojo.
KPC also had a good outing in the regional competitions,
finishing third in the Africa Club championship and finishing second in the
Zone Five East Africa competitions.
The Kenya Pipeline Company recognised the teams’ achievements
and appreciated them with a KSh. two million cheque in the event.
Speaking to Citizen Digital after the breakfast, KPC Managing
Director Joe Sang praised the team’s resilience and consistent performances
throughout the season.
“We are delighted to celebrate our KPC volleyball team. They
have done tremendously well, not only winning the KVF league.
“They also finishing third in the Africa Club Championship in
Abuja, Nigeria, and second in the Zone V Championship held in Uganda,” noted
Sang.
He expressed pride in the club’s long-term investment in
nurturing young talent, revealing that many players in the current squad were
recruited directly from high school.
“We’ve invested in young talent, some of these players joined
us fresh from High School, and it’s satisfying to see them grow into national
stars," noted Sang.
Eight players from the KPC squad have been named in the
Malkia Strikers provisional squad ahead of the FIVB Women’s World Championship
scheduled to run from August 22 to September 7.
Sang further emphasised the importance of player development,
announcing plans to introduce structured mentorship and financial literacy
programs within the club.
“Our aim is to ensure the girls are not just successful
athletes, but also financially independent individuals. We want them to save,
plan for the future and become successful outside the court.”
Head coach Geoffrey Omondi also lauded the team, and laid a
blue print for his side ahead of the new season.
“It’s a great day to celebrate the achievements we have made.
It may not be 100 percent, but we intend to make it better next season.
"We appreciate the support we have had. We will ensure
that the trophies we did not get this season we bring them back next season,"
Omondi averred.
Omondi added that the loss to Zamalek in the club
championship is just an extra motivation to train hard to be able to beat top
sides.
“We will not stop training because of off-season. The defeat
to Zamalek was an eye-opener. We will train with high standards, not just to
beat DCI or KCB but to reach the level of top clubs in the world.”
