National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) has questioned the timing by government in approving car grant for MCAs who are tasked with debating the BBI bill.
The NCCK stated that the move may be well intended, but the timing is questionable adding that it is likely to influence decision-making in the ongoing debate.
The clergy led by Secretary General Rev. Chris Kinyanjui told the state to clean up the system in readiness to a referendum including appointing the new commissioners at the electoral body IEBC and updating vote register.
Addressing the press on Thursday, the church warned politicians against spreading disparaging and inflammatory remarks, urging focus on a healthy discourse in the quest to review the constitution.
So far, 8 assemblies have passed the BBI bill which requires the support of at least 24 assemblies to sail through to the next step.
