Cyprian Bundi has been crowned overall winner of the second edition of the KGU Nanyuki Open, which teed off at the Nanyuki Golf Club over the weekend.

Bundi, a member of the host club, was first runner-up in last year's inaugural tournament at the same course. He claimed the title this time after the reigning champion, his predecessor, turned professional, leaving the crown up for grabs.

The tournament drew more than 300 amateur golfers, making it one of the region's biggest amateur fixtures. The strong turnout underlined the growing appeal of the sport in Nanyuki and its surrounding areas, and the victory adds to Bundi's growing résumé as he sets his sights on making the leap to the professional ranks in the near future.

His journey from runner-up to champion in just one year has also been a talking point among players and spectators, many of whom see it as proof that consistency and hard work on home turf can pay off.

Golf enthusiasts in the region expressed optimism about the future of the sport, praising both the quality of the course and the calibre of golfers who took part. Several participants said they hope to return next year to defend their title.

Club Chairman Paul Mwangi commended all the participants for their sportsmanship and for making the tournament a success. He said the club was honoured to keep the trophy at home, noting that the win was a proud moment for the club and its members.

The KGU Nanyuki Open, now in its second year, is fast establishing itself as a key event on the amateur golf calendar, with organisers and players alike looking ahead to a bigger and more competitive third edition.
