Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega County will be ready in time to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports, Salim Mvurya, confirmed today.

During a tour of the construction site, Mvurya reassured the public of the government’s commitment to ensuring the stadium meets the required standards for the prestigious tournament.

He emphasized that the project remains on schedule and will deliver a world-class venue.

Kakamega Governor, Fernandes Barasa, who accompanied Mvurya, expressed confidence in the construction progress.

He assured that all necessary measures are in place to meet AFCON's strict hosting requirements, while highlighting the stadium’s role in boosting sports development in the region.

Other venues earmarked for the tournament include Moi International Sports Center Kasarani, Nyayo National Stadium, and the upcoming 60,000-capacity Talanta Sports City along Ngong Road.

Kenya will co-host AFCON 2027 alongside Uganda and Tanzania after their successful joint bid.
