Boy shot in Rongai protests to wait longer for final rest as family is set to begin mediation next week

On July 6, a procession was headed to bury Kennedy at his mother Jacinta Anyango’s home in Rusinga, when his father Denis Okinyi hijacked them, armed with a court order.

Okinyi sought to stop the burial of Kennedy until a court determination on where the boy should be buried is made on June 17. 

On Wednesday, the court asked the two parents to consider dialogue as an alternative dispute resolution mechanism being that it was a family matter.

The case was referred to Homa Bay Court where the mediation process was to kick off today, Thursday.

Homa Bay resident magistrate Beatrice Toroitich however suggested for the mediation to start next week since a mediator who could have handed the matter is unwell.

Toroitich said an arbitrator will be assigned by the court to listen to the aggrieved families and bring a truce between them.

The case will be mentioned on July 25, 2024.
