The 45th season of the Kenya National Boxing League is set
to punch off on Thursday this week at Old Town Hall, Nakuru.
With the Africa Zone 3 Championships beckoning later this
month in Gabon, David Munuhe, the secretary general of the Boxing Federation of
Kenya (BFK), says the Nakuru show will likely be used to pick some probable for
the Central Africa tournament.
Headlining the event is KDF's World Championships
quarter-finalist Robert Okaka aka Man Ngori who will use the Nakuru show to
warm up for the Zone 3 Championships in Gabon.
Okaka has no opposition but he's not taking it lightly in
the light-heavyweight division.
Known for its fervent boxing culture, Nakuru is expected to
provide an electrifying and passionate crowd at the open-air Nyayo Gardens
venue with the competition featuring seasoned boxers looking to maintain their
top places against hungry, upcoming newcomers.
The leg is critical for early momentum, as boxers use it to
secure spots for the upcoming Zone 3 Championships, making it a must-watch
event for Kenyan sports fans and Nakuru's boxing addicts.
Munuhe said several teams such as Kenya Police, KDF, Prison
Mombasa, G44, Nanyuki, Nakuru, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nairobi, among others, have
confirmed participation.
“They will arrive in Nakuru from this Wednesday before the competition starts on Thursday. The second leg of the league will be held in Mombasa,"Munuhe said.
