A 35-year-old woman is being held in Bomet police station after she caned her 13-year-old son to death, on allegations he sneaked into a neighbour's farm and stole two maize cobs.

The suspect, Faith Cherono, also inflicted serious injuries on her 7-year-old daughter who is currently recuperating at Longisa County Referral Hospital.

According to Kembu location chief Isaac Koech, the suspect gave the beating to her two children after a neighbor reported that the minors were seen picking some cobs from his farm.

The chief added that the physically raged woman picked some sticks and mercilessly caned the two before she allegedly hit the boy’s stomach with wood, causing him serious injuries.

The neighbors heard the wild cries of the children and they intervened and rushed the two to the hospital. The 13-year-old boy was pronounced dead on arrival, while the traumatized girl was immediately admitted.

"The DCI and children's department are handling the issue, We don't want a case where the girl who is still traumatized is released back to the same suspect, her life is still in danger," said the Chief.

Police also arrested the woman's husband, Emanuel Mibei, 36.
