A traffic police officer stationed at the Kyokong police checkpoint on the Bomet-Narok highway is fighting for his life at Tenwek Hospital after being knocked down by a boda boda.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Bomet Central Police Station OCPD Musa Omar said the officer, who sustained serious injuries to the right leg and head, had stopped a private motor vehicle at the traffic stop when the incident occurred.

The speeding motorcycle, which was reportedly following the vehicle, attempted to navigate around the car hastily, inadvertently knocking down the policeman.

"The officer had stopped a vehicle which was en route to Narok from Bomet. Behind the vehicle was a speeding motorcycle whose rider attempted to go past the stopped car but knocked down our officer in the process," said Omar.

The OCPD added that the boda boda's two pillion passengers sustained minor injuries during the incident and were also rushed to Tenwek Hospital for treatment.

A traffic snarl-up ensued on the road following the incident before the police de-escalated the situation.

The motorcycle's wreckage has since been towed to Bomet Central Police Station.
