Robert Kyagulanyi popularly known as Bobi Wine will now be charged afresh at a civil court.

This comes after the State withdrew earlier charges of illegal possession of firearms.

On Thursday morning, Bobi Wine broke down when the court announced that charges against him had been dropped.

He was released but re-arrested a few moments later outside the General Court Martial in Gulu.

Bobi Wine has been handed over to Ugandan Police and will appear before Chief Magistrate Court.

Lawyer Medard Lubega Segona, who is also the Busiro East MP, had urged the court to release him to seek medical attention on claims he was “beaten and his rights were abused.”

Opposition leader Kizza Besigye was also arrested on Thursday morning for trying to leave his home that had been surrounded by police and military personnel.
