Bobasi Member of Parliament Innocent Obiri
has ditched Ford-Kenya for the Kalonzo Musyoka-led Wiper Democratic Movement party ahead
of the August General Elections.
The legislator made the move during a One
Kenya Alliance (OKA) tour of the Kisii County on Thursday.
He was received together with ten other Members
of County Assembly (MCAs) by the Wiper leader.
Obiri said that he was confident of the Wiper
party muscle in the country and was also certain of its future.
“Mimi nikiona mkiwa hapa hivi wengi na mimi
nikijiunga na nyinyi najua kitaweza kuwa chama kubwa,” Obiri said.
Kalonzo, on his part, lauded the move by the
MP saying it was key in establishing a base for Wiper in the region.
He noted that in 2007, his party did not have
any candidate from the region despite him running for the presidency.
“In 2007 I traversed the 10 constituencies
here in Kisii while campaigning but I did not get any candidate from the
region,” Kalonzo said.
Obiri was formerly a deputy party leader of Ford-Kenya, which is led by Bungoma Senator and Kenya Kwanza alliance co-principal Moses
Wetangula.
He was in 2017 elected on a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by former South Mugirango MP Omingo Magara before he moved to Ford-Kenya.
