Blow as Collins Sichenje suffers injury in Charlton's loss to Spurs

Harambee Stars defender Collins Sichenje’s League match tie against Premier League side Tottenham Hotspurs prematurely comes to an end after he was stretchered off after just  fifteen minutes. 

Sichenje’s injury means that he will miss AFCON qualifier matches that begin in September. Kenya however has qualified for the tournament by virtue of being tournament hosts. 

The defender was in clear distress after a challenge by Spurs forward Mathys Tel. He collapsed moments later despite a valiant effort to try and play on. The match ended 5-1 in favor of the Premier League side with goals from Moore, Solanke, Danso, Savio and Davies. Charlton's solo goal came through Jones. 

The defender now faces a lengthy period on the sidelines according to Charlton Athletic boss Paul Jones, who also saw Billy Koumentio - another center back leave the pitch just before the fifteen minute mark. The 23 year old who left clutching his hamstring compounded the defensive headache for the Addicks boss who was visibly distraught. 

“I don’t think they are good either one of them and it’s a bad night for us on that front,” Jones stated post match. 

“We lost Reece Burke the other so to lose another two center-backs, that’s the difficult thing. Everything we were going to go in for in the transfer market we are not able to, because we have to replace now. This is disastrous for us today, absolutely disastrous,” Jones added. 

Fellow Kenyan Timothy Ouma, recently signed on loan this summer from Czech giants Slavia Prague also made his debut for the London Club in midfield.

He completed 80% of his passes, had 100% success in long progressive passes into the final third and won 80% of his duels, a pretty decent outing which lasted sixty five minutes before coming off.
