KCB Volleyball Team technical director and Kenya Volleyball
Federation (KVF) acting President Paul Bitok believes the bankers have assembled
enough tools to hurt opponents at the Women's African Clubs Championships scheduled
to run from April 11 – 24 in Cairo, Egypt.
The Japheth Munala-coached side have finished outside
the medal bracket since they ended Kenya’s ten-year continental drought by lifting
the 2022 title in Tunisia after a 3-1 sets win over record holders Al Ahly of
Egypt.
Bitok, a former Malkia Strikers head coach, says the
squad has undergone evolution which he says will see some senior players move
into more peripheral roles.
“The final squad comprises of notable stars such as
Esther Mutinda, who has returned to represent KCB and team Kenya, so the team
is bound to deliver their best’’, said Bitok.
In their bid to recapture the African title, the former
national women’s league champions face strong opposition from homesides Al Ahly
and holders Zamalek, who are chasing a four-peat on home soil.
“We have been watching the Egyptian teams’ games, we
have analysed them and we have the right strategy to ensure we secure victory
against them”, said team captain Mercy Moim.
Mayline Terry, who was named MVP at the 2025 Under
20 Championship and made her debut at the African Club Championship last year,
where the team finished at the fifth position, will be joining the bankers in
Cairo.
“Last year was my first year at the Africa
championships but this year I am headed to Cairo with more experience”, Terry
stated.
“This year, we’ll come back home win the trophy”,
added Terry.
KCB will be representing Kenya alongside DCI and Kenya Pipeline hoping to be among the top three clubs that will proceed to the World Club Championships.
