Kenyan road runner Beatrice Jelagat Cherop has been slapped with a two-year ban after she tested positive for the banned substance Triamcinolone acetonide, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has announced.

The sample was collected in-competition during the Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon on October 6, 2024, and subsequently tested by a WADA-accredited lab in Doha, Qatar, revealing the presence of the prohibited glucocorticoid.

The AIU confirmed Cherop admitted to the anti-doping rule violations and accepted the consequences outlined in the Notice of Allegation.

"This is the athlete’s first anti-doping rule violation, and there is no evidence of intentional use," the AIU stated in its decision.

As a result, Cherop’s results from October 6, 2024, onwards have been disqualified, including forfeiture of any titles, medals, and appearance fees.

Cherop, a 36-year-old seasoned marathoner, has waived her right to a hearing before the Disciplinary Tribunal.

"I accept the consequences as stipulated and will comply fully with the decision," she wrote to the AIU.

The decision can be appealed by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) or the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The suspension is effective from November 27, 2024, and will run until November 26, 2026.

This case highlights the ongoing commitment of the AIU to uphold integrity in athletics and maintain a level playing field for all athletes.
