Unbeaten Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) women’s basketball team are out to maintain their purple patch when they host Zetech Sparks in the National Women’s Basketball Premier League clash at Makande Gymnasium in Mombasa on Saturday.

The Dockers have enjoyed an impressive campaign so far, winning all nine matches to top the standings with 18 points.

On the other hand, Zetech Sparks are fifth on the log with 15 points after playing 10 matches, winning five and losing five.

Ahead of the encounter, KPA head coach Samuel Ocholla expressed confidence in the team’s condition and readiness for the weekend assignment.

“We are okay, everyone is fine, everyone is in good condition, and we are expecting good matches this weekend,” said the coach.

He added that the team is determined to maintain momentum as the race for playoff positions intensifies.

“We expect to continue with the same momentum because at this stage of the league, every team is fighting for a good position in the playoffs. So we will not relax or lose focus; we will continue from where we left off until the end of the season,” he added.

At the same time, Ocholla credited the long break the team had for helping the players recover and regain energy ahead of the crucial tie.

“The preparations have been good and we have continued with our training sessions as a team since our last game, which was played last month. It has been quite a long time since we last played, but we can say the long break has also been helpful because players who had small knocks here and there have had enough time to recover,” he noted.

“I cannot say that we had serious injuries, but the break has also given the players time for their muscles to relax after the vigorous games we played previously,” he added.

KPA will rely on their strong form and home support as they seek to extend their unbeaten streak, while Zetech Sparks will aim to upset the league leaders and improve their standing on the table.
