The drought situation in Baringo County is worsening by day with permanent rivers drying up.

This has prompted locals to depend on shallow wells along the river bed to get water for domestic and animal use.

Areas which are currently experiencing harsh drought are parts of Mogotio, Tiaty, Baringo South and Baringo North where animals have started to die for lack of water and grass.

A visit to Akwichatis and Natan area of Tiaty shows carcasses of livestock, with those that are still alive looking too feeble to stand.

As locals dig shallow wells, others have now moved to the lower side of Kapedo - which has a permanent water source.

However, insecurity in those parts has been a challenge as communities shy away for fear of persistent clashes.

Baringo County Assembly Speaker Vincent Kemboi says the drought situation in the county is now worse due to the negative effects of climate change.

Locals are now calling for Goverment to extend off take programme to ensure they don’t suffer double lose.

It is now estimated that 4.3 million Kenyans are suffering from hunger with calls for Non-governmental entities to intervene to mitigate the impacts of drought in the country.
