Barasa hails Bungoma Queens defensive improvement after Gideon Starlets draw

Bungoma Queens head coach Ben Barasa has praised his players for an improved defensive display after they were held to a goalless draw by Gideon Starlets in their second Kenya Women’s Premier League (KWPL) match of the season.

The result marks a defensive improvement for Bungoma Queens following their 6-0 defeat to Police Bullets in their opening league fixture.

Barasa said his players responded well to the defensive adjustments made ahead of the match, although they struggled to convert their chances at the other end.

“We played well today compared to the previous matches. We conceded six goals in our last two matches, but today we kept a clean sheet. That tells you that we are working on our defence,” Barasa said.

Bungoma Queens have now gone two matches without scoring in the new campaign, leaving the coach keen to address their finishing.

Barasa admitted his side missed several clear opportunities against Gideon Starlets and says improving their conversion rate will be the next priority.

“We will work on our chances because we created several but failed to convert. We will work on our finishing,” he said.

The draw earned Bungoma Queens their first point of the season and lifted them to ninth place after two matches.

Barasa will now hope to build on the defensive improvement while finding a solution to his side’s lack of goals as the campaign continues.
