Danson Chetambe has described his maiden call up to Kenya’s senior men’s team Harambee Stars as a ‘dream come true’.
The Bandari FC midfielder is among the local players in camp preparing for three upcoming warm-up matches against South Sudan and Tanzania.
Chetambe stated that he is ready to fight for his place in the packed midfield as the Stars plot to ambush South Sudan and Tanzania in the friendlies before the AFCON qualifier matches against Togo and Egypt later this month.
“It is every player’s dream to wear national team jersey and I want to give it all so that I become a regular in the squad,” explained a delighted Chetambe.
Harambee Stars will tackle South Sudan at the Nyayo National Stadium on March 13, before playing against neighbours Tanzania on 15th and 18th March in Kasarani and Nyayo respectively.
He has at the same time applauded Bandari new coach Andre Casa Mbungo and his predecessor Ken Odhiambo for the roles they’ve played in moulding his career.
“They both pushed us to be at our best and the fruits have started coming,” he said.
The former Zoo player is leading the chart of most assists in the league, having created seven of Bandari’s 22 goals in the current campaign
Abdallah Hassan has also been called up to the Jacob Mulee’s team while goalkeeper Justin Ndikumana has joined Burundi national team for AFCON qualifiers.
