Bandari Queens, Mombasa Olympic clash in a fiery NSL derby

Bandari Queens head coach Jonathan Washe has thrown down the gauntlet ahead of Saturday’s highly anticipated NSL derby against coastal rivals Mombasa Olympic, expressing strong belief that his side will emerge victorious at Mbaraki Stadium.

The much-anticipated clash pits two teams riding on recent wins, setting the stage for an intense coastal showdown.

Mombasa Olympic arrive full of confidence after stunning league leaders Mathare United Women FC 2–1 at Makande Primary, while Bandari Queens are fresh from a commanding 3–1 away victory over Barcelona Ladies.

Bandari Queens will also draw confidence from their dominant 4–0 win over Mombasa Olympic in the first leg earlier this season.

However, coach Washe has warned against complacency, acknowledging the threat posed by a rejuvenated Olympic side.

“We have prepared well this week, but psychologically we know it will be a tough match,” said Washe. “They are coming from a big win against Mathare United and have strengthened their squad, but I am confident of a positive result.”

Adding to Bandari Queens’ momentum is the arrival of fresh reinforcements -  Koske Diana, Josphine Luyali and Mercyline Mwalimu- with the coach confirming the signing of three new players ahead of the second half of the season.

“These new signings will be a big boost for us,” Washe noted. “We are starting the second leg with this derby against our neighbours, and our target is nothing short of a clean sweep.”

Bandari Queens currently sit second on the NSL standings with 22 points and will be keen to maintain pressure at the top of the table. Mombasa Olympic, on the other hand, are fighting to climb out of the relegation zone, sitting second from bottom with just six points.
