Azimio leaders hit out at DP Ruto over leaked ‘slap audio'

A recording attributed to Deputy President William Ruto has stirred heated debate with Azimio leaders now turning on DP Ruto accusing him of being responsible for his fallout with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In the recording played in Ndhiwa during an Azimio rally, Ruto is heard saying he wished he could slap president Uhuru Kenyatta at one point for his stance after their 2017 election win was nullified by the Supreme Court after a petition by then NASA leader Raila Odinga.

Odinga and his team were at the tail end of their Nyanza campaign tour, when his allies trailed their attacks on DP Ruto over a leaked recording that has Ruto narrating that how he once wished he could slap President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“Hayo maneno umesikia hapa deputy president wan chi nzima akizungumza ni aibu kubwa sana…” Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka said.

In the leaked recording played during an Azimio rally in Ndhiwa Homa Bay county, Odinga allies said Ruto was responsible for his fallout with president Uhuru  and that he has been lying all along that the handshake between Odinga and Kenyatta watered down their political marriage.

“Anataka kupiga rais wa Kenya kofi jameni na akipewa majeshi na polisi atafanya nini…amekuwa akisema ati handshake ndio iliharibu Jubilee kumbe yeye ndio aliharibu…” MP Junet Mohamed weighed in.

“Jamani tunakushukuru baba kwa sababu kumbe kama haungekuja handshake hatujui angefanyia nini rais wetu..”Raila ally Maina Kamanda added.

Odinga who largely spoke in Dholuo also trained his guns on his August 9 main opponent William Ruto and accused him of overseeing corruption when he served as agriculture ministers during the grand coalition government.

“Report ya price water coopers iko na jina ya Ruto ndani inaonyesha yeye akiwa waziri wa kilimo alitumia marafiki kuuza mahindi  badala ya kuuzia kampuni za kusaga unga….” Raila said.

Odinga accused Ruto of running campaigns of deceit and running away from the corruption question.

“Yule jamaa wa Tanga Tanga viongozi wakifuatwa na ufisadi wanaema ati they are targeted that is deceit hawataki swala la ufisadi liongelewe,”

Raila ally and Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho also vowed to go after all the land that has been illegally grabbed if he is picked as the next Land Cabinet Secretary.

“Mimi nimepewa niwe waziri wa mashamba na nikiingia ofisini hivi..ruto shamba zote zimechukuliwa kinyume na sheria zitarudi kwa wananchi..”

As Odinga concluded his Nyanza tour he called for a six piece voting, endorsing gladys Wanga as the Azimio candidate for governor to face off with former Nairobi governor Evans Kidero.

“Homa Bay tutajitokeza 100 percent ili tuwe wa kwanza kufanya Raila apate kura za kuingia ikulu..” Wanga said.
