Azimio la Umoja coalition rebrands to Ukombozi Alliance, to be chaired by Uhuru

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka said on Monday that the move was made after a unanimous agreement by parties within the faction and will be headed by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“After today, this podium will change because the Azimio la Umoja coalition has today unanimously agreed to rebrand and change its name to the Ukombozi Alliance," Kalonzo noted.

"Let the country know that we are on the move. The coalition chair is Uhuru Kenyatta, and tomorrow, he is convening a Jubilee Party meeting to make the necessary decisions, which will be communicated to the Ukombozi Alliance."

Kalonzo noted that all necessary action will be taken after the meeting, including the official handover of the coalition's chairmanship to the Registrar of Political Parties.

He further welcomed Siaya Governor James Orengo and former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza among others.

Kalonzo maintained that the opposition will maintain its unity and will not endorse any threats to its unified course of ousting the government in the 2027 General Election.

“We will do everything possible to limit divisions among opposition leaders, including addressing the Linda Mwananchi issue at the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties,” he added.

On his part, Governor Orengo said that the team will now move with a "one term, one team and one coalition" slogan as it operates as the opposition front.

“There have been wide consultations within the opposition, and the target and destination are now set. All that remains is to hit the target. I am delighted that we are coming together because we have one common goal: the change that Kenyans desire," he said.

The team further chastised President William Ruto's attacks on Uhuru Kenyatta, wanting him to desist dragging the former Head of State into his leadership flaws.
