Athletics Kenya has released its 2026/2027 competition calendar, with Kenyan athletes targeting the 2027 World Athletics Championships in Beijing, China, and the African Games in Cairo, Egypt.

The season began on October 24 with the first Athletics Kenya Cross Country Weekend Meeting at Machakos Teachers Training College. The series will continue in Kimilili, Ol Kalou and Mosocho in Kisii as athletes prepare for national and international competitions.

The National Cross Country Championships will be held at Lobo Village in Eldoret on February 13, serving as trials for the African Cross Country Championships scheduled for March 20 in Mbabane, Eswatini. The World Athletics Road Running Championships will follow on March 28 in Yangzhou, China.

The track and field season opens with Athletics Kenya Weekend Meetings in Mombasa on March 5 and 6.

Other major events on home soil include the Sirikwa Classic Continental Tour Gold in Eldoret on February 27, the City of Champions Continental Tour Bronze in Eldoret on March 27, and the Kip Keino Classic Continental Tour Gold at Nyayo National Stadium on April 30.

The National Track and Field Championships are scheduled for June 24 to 26 at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru, ahead of the final trials for the World Championships and African Games at Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret from July 29 to 31.

The Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, United States, on July 3 will also serve as Kenyan trials for the women’s 5,000 metres and men’s 10,000 metres.

The African Games will run from August 27 to September 10, while the World Athletics Championships are scheduled for September 11 to 19 in Beijing.

Beyond elite competition, the calendar includes road races, community runs and children’s athletics activities across the country, aimed at expanding participation and nurturing emerging talent.

Athletics Kenya says it will continue working with its affiliates, event organisers and other stakeholders to provide competitive opportunities for athletes at all levels and support the growth of the sport.

The calendar, dated October 27, was signed by Athletics Kenya Senior Vice President and Director of Competitions Paul Mutwii.
