Kenya's
boxing assistant captain, Elizabeth Andiego, has shifted her focus to the
upcoming Olympic qualifiers that will be held in Dakar, Senegal later next
month.
For the
second year running, Andiego lost to Africa's first-ever female world champion,
Khadija Mardi of Morocco in their light-heavyweight semis clash last week in
Yaounde, Cameroon.
"Now we
are focusing on the preparations for the Olympic qualifiers that will be held
in Dakar. We have very little time to correct the mistakes we made in Yaounde,
but we hope we will do better because our goal is to win gold medals in every
competition that we participate in.
“In
Cameroon, everyone tried according to their abilities to win but there are
other bouts where the referees were not fair but that does not discourage us
from continuing our hard work and efforts to take Kenyan boxing forward,"
Andiego said.
The African
Boxing Championships were held from July 25 to August 6, whereas the African
Olympic Qualifiers will be in Dakar, Senegal from September 9 to 15.
