Amina to launch Kenya's Commonwealth Games boxing campaign

The bout marks Kenya's opening boxing contest of the Games and offers Amina the chance to build on an impressive run of international success.

A journalist and digital strategist, Amina arrives in Glasgow as the reigning 2025 AFBC Zone Three bantamweight champion and the 2024 African Games bronze medallist. She made history in Accra by becoming the first Kenyan woman to win a boxing medal at the African Games.

Several members of Kenya's Hit Squad have received favourable draws ahead of the opening bouts.

In the women's 60kg division, Rosemarion Otieno has been handed a first-round bye and advances directly to the quarter-finals. She will face Canada's Marie-Bathoul Al-Ahmadieh on July 28 in the afternoon session, with a place in the semi-finals at stake.

Kenya's men's captain, Boniface Mogunde, has also received a favourable draw in the men's 70kg category. After a bye in the Round of 32, he will begin his campaign in the Round of 16 against Scotland's Sony Kerr on July 27 during the evening session.

In the men's 80kg division, Robert Okaka has also progressed automatically to the Round of 16 after receiving a first-round bye. He will face either Nigeria's David Akintola or Tanzania's Yusuf Changalawe, who meet in their preliminary bout.
