Kuria proposed that the president should not be granted powers to appoint the Interior Cabinet Secretary, the Chief Justice and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP); affirming that the positions should be independent from the onset.
He claimed that the Constitution grants the president the prerogative to 'interfere' with the agencies' duties in dispensing justice.
"There are amendments we should make to the Constitution. We should not give the President the power to appoint the Minister of Interior, the Chief Justice, and the DPP because he appoints his friends," he said in an interview with K24.
Kuria explained his stance against injustices committed by the government; citing that he would use his voice to empower the youth to fight for their rights.
"I joined the prison department to serve people and I've realised that I can be of more benefit to the country outside of being a prison warden. I can speak about our Constitution and people listen," he noted.
Shakur was arrested on January 15, and arraigned in court a day later, where police officers sought to detain him for 21 days to investigate several allegations levelled against him.
Among the charges included publishing false information; which he denied and was released on a cash bail of Ksh.50,000.
