AFC Leopards head coach Fred Ambani has rued his team’s lack of finishing after the side settled for a goalless draw against Bandari FC at Mbaraki Sports Club yesterday.
Despite the stalemate, Ambani praised his players for a resilient performance under what he called “challenging and unfriendly” coastal weather conditions.
“I can say the match has been fantastic, even though we wasted lots of chances. Maybe it was not planned that we win the match and we take that point thanking the boys for a well-played game, said Ambani.
“But we must be clinical in front of goal if we want to collect maximum points in future. The weather was very unfriendly to the boys but they sustained it for the entire 90 minutes which is not easy for visiting teams here,” he added.
Bandari coach Bernard Mwalala welcomed the draw as a valuable point but admitted that Leopards dominated the match and created more scoring opportunities.
“I thank God for the one point today. AFC Leopards have had lots of chances which they have not been able to convert to goals,” Mwalala said.
“They dropped two points, while we gained one. I especially want to thank our goalkeeper for keeping a clean sheet."
With the result, AFC Leopards remain second on 37 points, six behind leaders Gor Mahia, though they have a game in hand. Bandari sit eighth with 28 points.
