Aluoch cites teamwork for Mathare Women’s KWPL return

Mathare United Women head coach Ann Aluoch has attributed the team’s successful campaign in the National Super League (NSL) Women’s competition to a strong start to the season, hard work from the players, and support from the club’s management.
Mathare United Women clinched the NSL Zone A title and secured promotion to the top-tier league after an impressive season in which they played 21 matches, losing only once and drawing a single game.
Speaking to Citizen Digital about the campaign, Aluoch said the team approached the season determined to correct mistakes made during the previous campaign. She noted that the players showed great commitment throughout the season, which played a huge role in helping the club achieve promotion.
"Last season we really had a good run. Both the management, the technical bench and the playing unit were committed because we had an objective of winning the league," she said.
The tactician also admitted that life in the top flight will present a tougher challenge, insisting that the team must prepare adequately before beginning their new journey in the premier league next season.
"We will have to reinforce in all departments because the top flight is not easy. We are going to meet teams such as Kenya Police Bullets and Ulinzi Starlet, every department has to be functional." She added.
Following their triumph in Zone A, Mathare United Women will now face Shabana Starlets, who finished top of Zone B, in a playoff match to determine the overall women’s NSL champions in the country.
Meanwhile, Gor Mahia Queens, who finished second in Zone A, are set to take on Elim White Ladies, the runners-up from Zone B. The winner of that encounter will earn promotion to the top-tier league and join Mathare United Women and Shabana Starlets next season.
