Six activists who
were reportedly arrested on Thursday during the Gen Z protest commemoration have
now been reported missing.
Activists who
gathered at the Milimani courthouse to witness the release of other protesters
said all their efforts to find the activists had been fruitless as they called
on the government to release them.
One of the
activists, Shakira Wafula, called on the government to release the six or
present them in court, as they prepare to file a missing persons report.
Ernest Oduor, from
the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC), said: “We are sending an alarm that
some of the people who were arrested yesterday by the police and it was caught
on camera cannot be traced. We cannot find Fredrick Odhiambo Ojiro, Davis
Luchuma, Elisha Alam, Collins Ochieng, Muteti Mulinge and Michael Ngige.”
“Tumekuwa hapa
tangu mchana tukismama na wale ambao walishikwa jana…wengi wao wameachuiliwa na
kupatiwa cash bail ya elfu moja, ila kuna wasita ambao hawajaletwa kortini na
hawajulikani wako wapi. Ningependa kuwahimiza polisi na serikali waachilie hawa
wanaharakati kama wakona makosa waletwe kortini kama wenzao,” added Wafula.
