Three wins now separate Gor Mahia from a record-extending 22nd league title after the latest round of Kenyan Premier League (KPL) matches left them seven points clear at the top of the table ahead of second-placed AFC Leopards.

League leaders Gor Mahia were held to a 1-1 draw by Police FC at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday, with K’Ogalo forced to come from behind to salvage a point against the defending champions.

Despite the setback, head coach Charles Akonnor remained confident in his side’s title ambitions, while urging his players to finish matches more clinically.

“The team is playing some good football and our fans should not be worried. We are remaining focused until the end of the season. We know we have three games to win and be crowned champions,” said Akonnor.
Gor Mahia have played one game more than their closest challengers, AFC Leopards, meaning a victory for Ingwe in their game in hand on Wednesday would reduce the gap and intensify the title race heading into the final three matches of the season.

However, Akonnor insisted his squad remains focused despite the mounting pressure.

“We have a committed squad. There is a lot of teamwork in every department and we want every Gor Mahia fan to believe in the team as we look forward to winning the league,” he added.

Meanwhile, 12-time league champions AFC Leopards will face relegation-threatened Ulinzi Stars in their game in hand. A win would cut Gor Mahia’s lead at the top of the table to four points with three matches remaining before the end of the season.
