Koskei’s decision was in line with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive to leaders mentioned in the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) report to step aside.

The CS said that he was never interrogated by the anti-graft commission but took it upon himself to uphold the rule of law.

“I have not been questioned by EACC but I decided to step aside after my name featured in its report,” he said.

“It is the role of every Kenyan to respect the rule of law and uphold the spirit of constitutionalism and as leaders we have to lead by example.”

The CS said that his conscience was clear and that he had not involved in graft of whatever form.

He further said that he is a clean man and “time is the best doctor”.

Importance of integrity and reputation

Koskei said that he will be vindicated once the investigations have been concluded.

“I am a clean man and I know once investigations are concluded, I will be vindicated,” he added.

The agriculture boss further noted that “my name, integrity and reputation are important to me.”

He further added that he will present himself to the ethics body on Monday in order to record a statement.

Koskei said that by continuing to be in office, he might be accused of interfering with investigations.

“It is good that investigations are done when am not in office. This will help the investigators speed up their work and no cases of interference will affect their job.”

Koskei is the first leader to resign following the presidential directive issued on Thursday.

His resignation comes even as Governors and other top ranking officials in the government rubbished the directive saying that they will not step aside.
