Aga Khan medics down tools

Resident doctors from the Aga Khan hospital, the largest private hospital in the country, Thursday December 22, downed their tools.

Services remained paralyzed following the withdrawal of services by the consulting doctors in training, who joined their counterparts in public health facilities to agitate for the implementation of the 2013 collective bargaining agreement (CBA).

Speaking to the press, Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union Representative at the Aga Khan, Gilford Mwikamba said, that not even arrest and prosecution will stop them from agitating for the implementation of the CBA.

According to him, they will keep the paralysis on for twenty four hours every Thursday before embarking on a complete shutdown.

“We cannot stomach this anymore, we are working in the private sector at the moment and we are seeing some politicians who are punishing our people and we have said enough is enough’’, he said.

As this was happening The Industrial and Labor Relations Court postponed the determination of the appropriate ruling for the union officials to 10th January 2017.

The industrial court on its part pushed forward the hearing of the determination of the appropriate action to be taken against the doctor’s union officials after being found in contempt of court.

The secretary General of KMPDU, Ouma Oluga, said  that doctors in  this country have been pursuing better terms and conditions that are enriched in the CBA  that the government signed.
