Kenya Police Bullets is keen to star in the Women's Champions League Cecafa region qualifiers after winning the Kenya Women's Premier League for the third time in a row.
The David Vijago coached side secured the title with a
hard-fought 1-0 victory over Trinity Starlets over the weekend.
With the season set to culminate on Sunday, May 16, Polic
are on top with 49 points followed by Ulinzi Starlets, Kibera Soccer Women,
Trinity and Vihiga Queens with 44, 34, 33 and 31 points in that order.
“We have worked for this moment, but we also understand bigger
challenges are ahead of us,” said Vijago.
Vijago however warned his side against complacency saying
they need to remain strong and focussed ahead of the Champions League
qualifiers slated for August 22-September 6 in Kigali Rwanda.
"Winning the FKF-WPL title for the third time in a row
should not carry us away. We fought for it and now its home, the focus now
shifts for Champions League Qualifiers whereby we need to bolster our squad to
match the competitiveness."
On her part skipper Elizabeth Ochaka said the high level of
discipline coupled with unity in the squad and hard work is what made them
claim the gong - the third time in a row.
“We fought for every match and every point this season.
Winning again is special but now everyone will want to beat us, so we must keep
improving.”
In the Champions League Qualifier held in Nairobi in 2025,
Police bowed out in the semi-final after a 4-2 defeat in the hands of Tanzanian
heavy weight JKT at Kasarani stadium.
They had topped Group A with 6 points after kicking off with
a 1-0 win over the Kampala Queens and followed that up with a 2-0 victory
against Denden FC of Eritrea.
In 2024 Bullets reached the final but fell 1-0 to hosts
Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE), who represented the region in the Champions
League.
