African religious leaders join the Climate Change crisis activism

The delegation of Faith Based Organisation led by Rev.Dr. Ezekiel Lesmore-Director of Programmes All Africa Conferences of Churches and his Counterpart Sheikh-Saliou Mbacke from Senagal among other Bishops and Reverends from other Countries faced Africa Climate Week Stakeholders to present their case under the title: 'Faith in Action for Climate Justice'

In the Plenary session, African political leaders, Civil Societies and Private Sectors were represented.

The religious leaders demanded to be part and parcel of the COP 27 negotiation table.

"As faith leaders we are usually the first respondents in Crisis caused by Climate Change, when we talk about drought, flood, famine-you will always find the faith communities there, people run for refuge to the faith communities, that's why we want to be part of every conversation," Lesmore said.

They explained that negotiators have always avoided clerics for fear of being told the truth.

Adding that the political class drive the Climate Change Agenda and  unfortunately have never given them opportunity to voice their stand.

While announcing their planned Youth Congress to be held in Accra, Ghana in November, the clerics asked all Religious leaders in Africa and beyond to rally behind Climate Change Justice narrative.

The 2022 Conference of Parties (COP27) aims at pushing for adaptation and Mitigation funds for  Climate Change.
