The high-level forum convened delegates from National Olympic Academies across Africa, alongside sports administrators and educators, with a shared focus on strengthening cooperation and advancing the principles of Olympism — excellence, friendship and respect.
NOC-K president Shadrack Maluki said Kenya’s decision to host the session was both strategic and intentional, citing its potential to unlock growth within the sector.
“As president of the National Olympic Committee, together with my committee, we deliberately, when requested by AANOA, chose to host it because we know the benefits it brings in terms of opening the avenues of sports development,” said Maluki.
He indicated that the opening engagements were largely preliminary, setting the stage for more substantive deliberations among stakeholders in the days ahead.
“This was just a courtesy visit; the real deal and discussions begin tomorrow,” he added.
AANOA president Ridha Layouini highlighted the significance of Kenya’s role in fostering continental partnerships, praising the reception accorded to delegates and the early progress made in bilateral engagements.
“We really appreciate the welcome we have gotten from the National Olympic Committee of Kenya led by its president, and this opens grounds for collaboration for both organisations,” said Layouini.
He expressed confidence in the outcomes of the session, noting that initial talks had already identified key areas of cooperation.
“We have had fruitful discussions with the president to discuss avenues of collaboration and we are really looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together, and we are sure we can work hand in hand for the development of the Olympic movement in Africa,” he said.
The session is expected to feature a series of workshops, seminars and panel discussions aimed at deepening Olympic education and reinforcing institutional linkages among African nations.
Kenya’s hosting of the forum further cements its growing influence in shaping the trajectory of sport and Olympic development across the continent.
