A high-level delegation from the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), led by President & CEO Gloria Guevara, has concluded a visit to Kenya aimed at reinforcing global cooperation on conservation and sustainable tourism.

The delegation, which included Kenya’s former Tourism Minister Hon. Najib Balala, toured key conservation sites in Nairobi including Nairobi National Park, the Ivory Burning Site, and the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.

The visit was framed around strengthening partnerships that position wildlife conservation as a central pillar of tourism-driven economic growth.

Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) hosted the delegation, showcasing ongoing efforts to protect biodiversity while leveraging conservation as a foundation for livelihoods and tourism development.

During the visit, Hon. Najib Balala pledged KSh 100,000 towards wildlife conservation efforts, signalling continued private and public sector alignment in supporting Kenya’s conservation agenda.

The visit comes at a time when global tourism stakeholders are increasingly emphasising “nature-positive” approaches, where environmental protection is directly linked to economic resilience and community well-being.

Speaking during the tour, WTTC President & CEO Gloria Guevara said Africa is rapidly emerging as a key growth frontier for global tourism, with Kenya setting a benchmark for sustainable practice.

“Africa is now one of the fastest-growing tourism regions globally, and Kenya is helping lead that momentum. With a strong economic contribution, a balanced demand model and clear leadership in sustainable tourism, Kenya demonstrates what long-term Travel & Tourism success can look like,” she said.

She added that WTTC will deepen its engagement with Kenya and the wider African region to strengthen the sector’s contribution to jobs, investment, and inclusive economic growth.

WTTC noted that Kenya’s model anchored on wildlife protection, community engagement, and tourism innovation continues to position the country as a reference point for sustainable tourism development globally.
