Adongo eyeing Premier League promotion with Kibera Black Stars

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Adongo declared that after analyzing their shortcomings in the previous campaign, the club's full focus for the new season is securing a spot in the Premier League.

"In the 2026/2027 season, we have prepared ourselves well, we have a solid plan to ensure we compete and join our colleagues up there in the Kenya Premier League," Adongo stated.

Reflecting on their previous outing, where the team finished eighth following a late-season slump, Adongo emphasized that lessons have been learnt.

"Last season we finished number eight. We had a rough patch towards the final nine matches of the league," he revealed.

"What I can say is that we have organized ourselves, prepared thoroughly and are working to seal the loopholes that prevented us from fulfilling our dream of stepping up to the Premier League."

The club is currently in its third week of pre-season training, with management actively looking to plug gaps left by several high-profile departures to top-flight clubs.

Kibera Black Stars have lost key talents, including Bundi, who joined Tusker, Ange, who joined Murang'a Seal, Owenge, who joined Ulinzi Stars and goalkeeper Elvis, who joined Nairobi City Stars.

"We are currently in our third week of pre-season, assessing players because many of our regulars have been poached by top KPL teams. These are significant gaps we must fill so we can build a squad capable of fighting for the top spots," he explained.

Adongo's message to Kibera Black Stars fans was nothing but a promise of promotion come the 2026/27 season.

"Nothing short of glory. The target is promotion, there is no other story."

Commenting on off-pitch issues, including administrative disputes, court cases over promotions, and the lack of dedicated sponsorship for the NSL, Adongo urged football authorities to protect the integrity of the game.

"As a genuine football person, those who deserve to be promoted should go up and those who deserve relegation should go down. Football ends on the pitch, not in courtroom battles. Taking matches to court disrupts team planning significantly," he argued.

He further advocated for increased support and structural changes to help the second-tier league attract sponsors, noting that the NSL remains the main feeder pool for top Kenyan talent.

"Most players who shine in the premier league originate from the NSL, the governing bodies need to be radical in their approach. Executive members and leadership must sit down, iron out differences and fix what is broken so the league can attract proper sponsorship," he concluded.
